Abstract

The purpose of having baby monitoring is to keep babies under surveillance even though they are not within close reach of their guardian. Its technology generally uses camera products such as Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), Personal Computer, or Smartphone for monitoring by detecting abnormalities such as: sound, certain motions, and respiratory changes. The development of mobile technology allows baby monitoring to be made using two smartphones. The proposed system has implemented the concept of Virtual Network Computing (VNC server) with Remote Frame Buffer protocol (RFB) for pair-communication in video streaming. Major function of baby monitoring is to provide Alert function likes phone call and short message based on sound detection. Configurations data such as interval sound detection, threshold of sound intensity, phone numbers, and histories data like direct phone call, short text messages, images, and videos is stored on Web Server host. For this early study, there was only a crying sound detector on the Server side. The threshold of sound intensity has been tested using source sound of crying baby with volume level 5 – 10. The location of sound detector was keep away from baby position each 0.2 meters. Results have shown that the proposed system has been able to detect the sound 's source of crying baby with sound intensity 54dB at 0.8 meters which is still at an allowable distance to differentiate the baby's uncomfortable condition. Alert function based on sound detection has been worked successfully in 30 experiments to do direct calls and short text messages.
